Zimbabweans face one of the most trying times when it comes to electricity, with only 40% having access to electricity and facing up to 14hours of power cuts per day. The power situation makes it difficult for citizens to meet daily needs at both household and national level. Decentralized Renewable Energy Programme strives to make energy systems sustainable and fair. The ultimate goal is to meet people’s energy needs through green and inclusive energy systems that create economic opportunities for women and men while mitigating climate change. More than 700million people lacking access to energy and over 2billion without access to clean cooking technologies and fuels. Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) solutions are environmentally sustainable, more reliable and can be installed much faster than traditional power generation. DRE’s are the most cost-effective solution for the majority of those who are in rural areas. For it to be developed on a wider scale in Zimbabwe, we need favorable policies in an enabling environment.
