Over 1,000 Nigerians fell victim to a scam involving purported job opportunities in the UK, losing substantial amounts, up to $10,000 each, according to Laurent De Boeck, Chief of Mission at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The scammers issued fake employment letters, leading victims to obtain UK visas, only to find out upon arrival that the organizations disavowed the letters. Consequently, these individuals are stranded in the UK, unable to return home due to financial constraints. The IOM has highlighted the extent of the deception and its impact on unsuspecting job seekers.
