Construction of 'Zojila Tunnel' has begun. The development has massive strategic significance for India amid on-going Indo-China standoff. Situated at over 11,500 feet, the tunnel would provide all-year connectivity between Srinagar-Kargil-Leh, which currently is limited only to 6 months due to heavy snowfall. Interestingly, the tunnel would reduce Srinagar-Leh travel time from over 3 hours to just 15 minutes and also make the road safer as presently it is one of the most dangerous roads in the world.
