CITV is closing down as a channel on September 1, 2023, with its shows moving to ITVX Kids, a new section of ITV’s streaming service. As we say goodbye to a UK kids’ TV channel with 17 years of history (and Childrens’ ITV as a brand with 40 years of heritage), I look back at the history of the channel and how it created and innovated, in spite of its neglected situation, as well as discussing how the closure of CITV serves as precursor to a potentially devastating future for British kids' TV, with the closure of its classic rival CBBC also on the way and the murky environment of streaming services.
