Evan talks about his work with the Coast Guard in crisis mapping and the future of new technologies in military applications. Evan Twarog is a Cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy. As an Electrical Engineering student, he is interested in particular in how data analytics and artificial intelligence can be used to improve disaster response and humanitarian missions. During Hurricane Harvey, Evan helped lead the Coast Guard’s first “crisis mapping” response. The effort collected social media “911 posts” from over 5000 survivors in need of rescue, and it represented the first time social media has played a major role in Coast Guard disaster response operations. Beyond the Coast Guard, Evan is a volunteer firefighter/EMT and a road cyclist for CLR Racing. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
