When asked to define Global Mapper, most users cite their specific application for the software in their response. For some, Global Mapper is a data conversion and reprojection utility; for others, it serves as a LiDAR processing platform; still others see it as a digitizing or drawing tool. While the usefulness of the application is best measured against such a prescribed workflow, an unfortunate consequence of this limited exposure is the fact that many of the more interesting features and functions remain uncovered. In the latest Global Mapper webcast, we encourage you deviate from your workflow path to explore and investigate some of the more interesting and creative components of Global Mapper. Topics include:
- Managing a geographically referenced workspace library
- Creating and using a vector template
- Edge-matching adjacent polygons
- Creating a quiver plot to visualize slopes
- Generating a heat map and other creative uses for the gridding tool
- Voronoi-Thiessen analysis
- Spatial bookmarking
- Assigning feature labels that scale with your map view
- Viewing data in a Google Maps interface
- And much more
