Natan Sharansky is an Israeli activist and former politician who rose to prominence in the 1970s as a leader amongst refuseniks - Jews who were denied permission to leave by the Soviet authorities. After harsh imprisonment and eventual release, Sharansky emigrated to Israel where he went into politics, and he remains a leader in fighting Antisemitism and oppression to this day.
