Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has officially announced his resignation.
He quit a day after fleeing weeks of mass protests over the country's worst economic crisis in decades.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will become the new president – despite calls for him to also step down - ahead of parliamentary election next week to vote on Mr Rajapaksa’s replacement.
Parliament is also expected to gather on Saturday to decide on who will fill in the prime minister position.
