Tucked away in a forest in East Germany, a hotel is offering guests the chance to live the high life

A German hotel is offering guests an opportunity to sleep in the tree tops, although perhaps not the height of luxury.

The houses are small, there are only basic facilities and no running hot water, and it is located in the middle of a forest by the German-Polish border.

But still, thousands of people travel here every year to stay at the treehouse hotel, near the town of Zentendorf, an approximately two hour drive south-east of Berlin.

The hotel consists of 10 houses, ranging from the smaller two bedroom houses for 180 euro (£144) per night to the big six-person house for 250 euro (£200) per night.

Some of the houses are just a few metres above ground but the highest is 15-metes.

Guests can visit each other by going on rickety, treetop wooden pathways that lead between the houses and also socialise in a treetop common area in the middle of the hotel.

Breakfast is included, as well as a welcoming drink and a night-time treasure hunt for the children.

Five of the ten houses were built in 2005 and the rest have been added throughout the years.

The hotel is located in the middle of an adventure park called the Kulturinsel Einsiedel, which has animals, playgrounds and slides for children.

In addition to the treehouse hotel there are also a number of huts on the ground where guest can stay.

Every year around 90-thousand people visit the park, with about 16-thousand staying at the hotel.

For the hotel guests, entry to the park is included in the price of the overnight stay.

Jurgen Bergmann is the owner of the park and hotel is a tree house fanatic, having lived in one for several years. He said he wants to give people the experience of spending a night in the middle of a forest.

"I grew up with treehouses. I also live most of the time in treehouses and my office is a tree house. And now I want to offer this to my guests," he said.
