Rayman Legends is a platform video game produced by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. It is the fifth main game in the Rayman series and a direct sequel to the 2011 game, Rayman Origins.
Initially announced as an exclusive game for Wii U, Rayman Legends was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PlayStation Vita on August 30, 2013 in Europe and September 3, 2013 in North America. Challenge was launched on the Wii U eShop on April 25, 2013. It was published in February 2014 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Rayman Legends was well received by critics with very positive reviews. The aggregated review sites GameRankings and Metacritic give the PlayStation 3 version 93.33% and 92/100, the Xbox 360 version 88.84% and 89/100 and the Wii U version 91.67% and 91/100, respectively.
The game has a style somewhat similar to Rayman Origins, its predecessor, in which multiple players run, jump and punch, making their way through the levels. Lums can be collected by being touched, defeating enemies, or releasing Teensies. Along with Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies, players can also control Barbara, a Viking woman.
In addition to Barbara, throughout the game, it is possible to venture out and unlock the rest of the Viking women, all of whom look different, however, the game fails to give each of them a different personality.
In addition to the main characters, Murphy the fairy, who first appeared in Rayman 2: The Great Escape, appears as a character in which he only assists. The Wii U and PlayStation Vita versions allow an additional player to control Murfy using the PlayStation Vita's touchscreen and, in the case of the Wii U, the GamePad. In the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, Murphy is controlled by the computer and can be activated to interact with the control buttons. Murfy has various actions such as cutting strings, activating various mechanisms, grabbing enemies and assisting in collecting Lums. Some levels also mix platforms for Rayman and friends with the pace of Murfy's gameplay. Ubisoft also revealed that for most of the game, the player controls Rayman and the other characters, temporarily switching to Murfy, during certain sections. Completing a level once unlocks the 'Invaded' version of it, where the level has been redesigned with other objectives or more enemies. The game has more than 120 levels to complete. Legends also includes 40 redesigned levels taken from Rayman Origins.
