Delco 10SI/12SI alternators are great to work with, reliable and versatile. I have used them on many conversions from 6 to 12 volt systems.
With a special regulator, the unit will work with 'one wire' and self-excite at speed. It will stay charging until unit is stopped. One disadvantage is the fact that the engine has to be revved up quite high for the regulator to 'cut in'. With the addition of a simple momentary contact of 12 volts to terminal 1, the charging process can be started with the engine at warm-up idle.
If you don't mind pressing a button or closing a switch to put momentary 12 volts to terminal one, a regular 10/12si will work just fine. There is no need for the special 'one wire regulator'. It will charge correctly until such time as the engine is shut down.
