Dutch birthdays are traditionally celebrated in a circle. This doesn't apply to informal gatherings. Of course, this also can vary from family to family but to Dutch birthdays I have been to people expect you to congratulate everyone by going around the circle shaking hands and giving them a kiss.

I mean, it was a little weird at first but I don't mind. It's actually fun now. 😃
