Two weeks ago I set myself the summer challenge to hike and fly as many Scottish Munros as I could in a single day. After work I drove to Glen Etive and spent a damp night in my bivi bag on the northeast ridge of Ben Starav. After waiting for the cloud inversion to break up the following morning, I reached the top and searched for a suitable launch for the first flight of the day. 3 minutes and 1000m later I landed by Loch Etive and headed for Glencoe. North winds meant I was in for a treat on flight number two if the clouds cleared off the top of Bidden nam Bien. As I approached the summit the last clouds lifted and I opted for a safer take off from Stob Coire Nam Beith. Another 3 minutes and 1000m later I landed back at the car and set off for Bridge of Orchy. Again the light north winds meant an opportunity to fly straight off the cliffs of Beinn Dothaid. Although my pace was slowing at this point I could see summer challenge success was within reach so I pushed on. After a great flight and having beaten my previous record of two Munros in a day, I was tired but content. I then had a choice, long boring walk back to the road, or a final climb to make it four and glide effortlessly back to the car. Decision made, one last climb up Beinn Achaladair and a long glide home to finish a superb day in the Scottish hills.
