[ Ссылка ] [ Ссылка ] It's the new hard enduro gully of delights! Ben has found yet another gnarly track that ends in this nasty climb through a rocky section. He's been practising hard for the hard enduro events run by Grassroots Enduro Australia, and doing quite well in silver class. His aim? Eventually to have a stab at gold class. So we are worried. If he is having trouble on this final section, despite practicing it, what hope do we everyday muppets have? You will see our humorous attempts later. Ben is lining his bike up for a static zap to try and get up this off camber rock face. I just watched the latest Romaniacs event and it's incredible to see how often the pro level riders use this technique. It's so useful in gnarly terrain for launching up steep faces, or getting the bike going again when it's stuck. Butt to the rear. Then throw your body weight forward, with a controlled drop of the clutch. And he's up! Make sure you see our training vid, the static zap for uphill obstacles. Ben wasn't happy with that so he's back for another shot. He wants to get up in one complete motion. Excellent! One final static zap and he's through. Anyway lets' get back to the start of the ride. He might be good at static zaps, but Ben is a wimp if you touch him with your front wheel. We only recently discovered this gully and apparently it's a great run if you like the gnarly stuff. This is my third dirt ride after fracturing my spine. So I'm taking it easy. And sitting as much as possible so I can keep my back straight. The last thing I need is low branches making me bend down, doh. Hopefully that was the only low branch for this ride. or the past six years, I have been standing on the footpegs as much as possible. But now I am forced to sit, it's incredible how you can still get through tough terrain with a few tricks up your sleeve. And it saves an incredible amount of energy too. After the spine fracture I am very unfit and yet I don't feel sore all over and fatigued compared to previous rides when I was standing all the time. And I noticed the best riders at Romaniacs are sitting at almost every opportunity, so they can get through the four day event. I'll do a training vid about this soon, it has made me rethink my approach of standing as much as possible... at least in some cases. Jeff gets maximum runup. And then under acceleration he doesn't pick the easy line but goes up this near vertical bit. And only just makes it. I am taking zero chances with this dodgy spine injury so give Ben handfuls of cash to ride my bike up. Time for some music. I will shut up until we get to the nasty uphill rock section. Okay we are getting into a nasty rocky climb here. It's a really well designed track. A really good hard enduro rider would probably not stop at all through here, but for us middle aged muppets it is stop go stop go all the way from here. And using all those techniques to minimise wheelspin and get through. Seat bouncing. Controlled drops of the clutch. Weighting the rear wheel. And some static zaps. Rocking the bike. Maximising run up. And of course get off the bike and push and lift when all else fails. Again I am surprised at getting through this stuff while sitting on the seat the whole time. Here is our final tough bit. Andrew lines up for the static zap. It's still quite a new technique for him but he nails it. Jeff lines up for his shot. If you watch carefully, you will see he probably drops the clutch a bit late, so he doesn't get the drive needed. The timing is very difficult. Watch our training vid, you will see the clutch needs to engage when you are halfway through throwing your body forward. Again, the clutch engages a fraction too late. Lucky third time. Stay tuned for more middle aged semi hard enduro, and also remember we are putting new vids out on the adventure riding channel too!
