Winter wonderland hike above Pear Lake Idaho following the Idaho Centennial trail. The starting temps were 15 degrees f. and dropped down to 8 f. with a 20 plus mph wind speed in several locations. With wind chill, we were down to -10 f.
- I tried out the alien gear chest rig for the Glock 20 with good results so far. It is fairly comfortable, though the chest strap can be a little restrictive while taking deep breaths. I imagine this could also cause the shirt to ride up, though I did not experience that issue. The issues with the drop leg rig is that while hiking it slowly walks down and has to be re-adjusted after a couple miles. It tends to be quite comfortable otherwise and I tend to forget it is there until it is pulling on the belt.
- I was also wearing the LA Police Gear Atlas tactical pants which experienced their first failure being the stitching at the zipper. The air infiltration became a bit of an issue once noticed. A reminder of the male weaknesses. These have been on a few hikes and several work days, but still an unacceptable failure for their age.
- The osprey atmos backpack is still great, with the only complaint being that it squeaks when hiking. I actually purchased another one as a backup in case this one fails at some point.
