In this video I will be going through 5 of the largest freshwater fish in the world. There are many giant freshwater fish in the worlds rivers and lakes but what fish is the biggest freshwater fish in the world? This is actually a very hard question to answer as monster fish come in many different shapes and sizes and two fish from the same species can vary in size drastically from one another.
So in this video I will be going through 5 river monsters that are thought to be the largest freshwater fish in the world. I will be including the Australian lungfish, the gulf sturgeon, the New Zealand longfin eel, the bull shark and the tiger shovelnose catfish in this episode.

The first giant fish on the list is the Australian lungfish. The Australian lungfish is one of the most primitive species of fish still alive today. This living fossil is found in the sluggish waters of Australia.
For our second monster fish we will be moving over to the gulf of Mexico as we have the gulf sturgeon. The gulf sturgeon isn't the largest fish that I have featured in this largest freshwater fish series but is a very interesting sturgeon species none the less.
For our next large fish we will move to New Zealand as we have the New Zealand Longfin Eel. The longfin eel is the largest eel species in New Zealand and has one of the strangest life cycles of any eel species.
For the next monster fish we will be heading to the tropical and temperate oceans as well as freshwater rivers as we have the bull shark. The bull shark can survive in both fresh and saltwater and is known to commonly swim up the Mississippi river , the Zambezi river and the amazon river. This misunderstood predatory fish is one of the largest fish that can be found in freshwater rivers.
For our final river monster we will be heading down to the rivers of south America as we have the tiger shovelnose catfish. This strange catfish species is very popular in the aquarium trade and is sometimes bred with the red tail catfish.
What do you think the biggest freshwater fish in the world is?
