Girls in Afghanistan beyond the sixth grade can only take secret classes hidden in residential homes as school doors to girls are closed under Taliban's rule. According to a data from UN, more than 1 million girls have been barred from attending most of middle school and high school over the past year.
The ban on girls' education concerns a senior member of the Taliban-run government as he pledges to reopen schools and says that there is no valid reason in Islam for the ban.
