The factory paint was faded so I scuffed it up by hand and with an orbital sander using 320 grit then I rolled on two coats of Rusty Metal Primer straight up. It's important to let this primer dry at least three days but I let it dry for a week in my garage for humid Kodiak. Then I thinned the paint with mineral spirits until it would start dripping off a paint stick in 8-10 seconds. Perhaps I should have thinned more because it left a few roller marks I had to sand out. I wet sanded with 320 or 400 grit between coats and finally 800 grit for last coat. In between coats I cleaned the surface with a rag and mineral spirits then a tack cloth. After letting it dry a week I wet sanded with 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit by hand then used Mothers Mag Polish and their drill foam attachment to buff it out followed by hand buffing with Nevr-dull which I was really impressed with. I spent over 12 hours sanding and buffing. My arms can feel it!
