4A Games' Metro Redux was confirmed for a February 28 release on the Nintendo Switch through a pair of 50-second teaser trailers released today.

The trailers are ostensibly identical minus an R 18+ rating at the beginning of the video cut for Australia which is absent in the PEGI (European) version. They feature a fly-through of various locales and hazards present in the subway tunnels of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, the two post-apocalyptic survival horror titles remade in HD for the Redux collection, ending in a snowy outside world that further zooms out to show the footage running on a Switch.

This release of Metro Redux on Nintendo's hardware was leaked by PEGI's rating board alongside Blue Manchu's Void Bastards for the PlayStation 4 at the end of 2019, but there were no concrete details other than its "18" rating available until today.

The descriptions for the teaser trailers on YouTube both say that ordering the physical version "from select retailers" will also provide players The Ranger Cache pre-order pack, which includes real-life swag like a set of pins, art cards, a poster, and a game case sleeve.

The Metro series is a popular adaptation of novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky, which has a film adaptation planned for 2022. In the realm of video games, Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light were followed by Metro Exodus — which was first released as an Epic Games Store Exclusive in February 2019. Despite the controversy that came with that exclusive release, a fourth sequel to the ongoing series is already in development at 4K Games.

Nintendo is a few years late to getting its hands on the remastered games featured in Metro Redux, which has been made available on PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One since its initial release in 2014. Back then the primarily family-friendly company was still pushing its Wii U console.

Since jumping to the Switch, Nintendo has become much more bold with releasing grittier and hardcore titles once thought unimaginable. In fact, the Switch will be seeing id Software's highly anticipated Doom Eternal sometime after its wide release this March.

The Metro games undoubtedly fit a similar niche, so it should be a perfect companion piece for gamers looking to balance out the cartoon-y fun of Mario and Pokemon.

Metro Redux is available now for PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One. It will be released on Nintendo Switch starting February 28, 2020.
