Aoun is widely considered the candidate supported by both the United States and Saudi Arabia. Previously, Hezbollah had thrown its weight behind Suleiman Frangieh, the leader of a small Christian party in northern Lebanon. However, Frangieh unexpectedly withdrew from the presidential race on Wednesday, endorsing Aoun instead, which paved the way for the army chief's ascent to the presidency. This move has led to speculations that Hezbollah may be recalibrating its strategy, particularly in the context of a fragile ceasefire with Israel.
