"You have to go to Alaska with a healthy dose of respect for the intense environment. Initially, I went there with fear as my overriding emotion but now with some experience, I realize fear doesn’t help but preparation and awareness does. There is anticipation of what's going to be unleashed that we don't have control of. Will the trail be rideable? Will the wind be howling and pushing us over? Will the temperatures plummet to -40F? Once the preparation is done, then the main and uncontrollable factors are weather and trail condition.” There isn’t much you can do about those things so you just hope! 🙏
.
The little reflective stakes that mark the Iditarod Trail are tiny beacons of hope and a lifeline guiding us forward. Even when the path seems unclear, there are always small signals if you focus your attention and move forward purposefully. And when you meet the official and heroic Iditarod Trail dog sled trail breakers clearing the path that karmic gift doesn’t hurt either! 💙
