In the current global crisis, people are fearful. Uncertainty leaves us in darkness. We feel powerless.
We need hope in crises. Hope gives us strength to face any adversity. Yes, we need personal and societal solutions to medical, financial, economic, and public health problems. But it is hope within us that energizes us to relentlessly move toward solutions.
God is our hope. Our Lord is the God of hope. He has given us a treasure trove of promises in the Bible, so there would be hope for every life situation. We can live in hope when we cling to his words of promise, and to who God is and who he wants you to be.
The basis for our hope in God is his goodness and faithfulness in keeping his promises. Understanding the promises that God has given us in his Word helps to create an inner strength of hope. This Divine hope trusts God to give us his best even though we may not have any idea what that looks like.
The psalmist wrote: “I am up before dawn crying for help. I find hope in your word.” —Psalm 119:147
Instead of concentrating on the uncertainty of future possibilities, we focus our attention on God’s goodness, faithfulness and incredible love for us. With that viewpoint, we trust him to work through the possibilities for our future, confidently believing that he is able and will bring about all that he desires for us.
“We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone.” —Psalm 33:20-22, NLT
The Promise Maker
A promise is only as good as the character and capability of the promise maker. Think about who God is when you consider his promises to you.
God can do anything because he has limitless abilities. He is present everywhere, he sees everything and can intervene anywhere he wants. He knows everything, which means he has all the facts with which to make right choices. And because he is all powerful, he has the ability to accomplish whatever is necessary to fulfill those promises.
Ever-present, all-knowing, and all-powerful — those infinite abilities make it possible for God to be sovereign—in complete control of everything.
Fortunately, all those abilities reside within our God who is holy—and that means what he does will always be right and just. What he says is true and what he promises will be fulfilled.
The best news of all is that this amazing God cares about you. He is merciful and forgiving even when you disobey him. He is faithful to always look out for you and your best interests even though it might not appear that way at first. He is totally committed to your ultimate good and well-being. And he never changes!
“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.” —Psalm 62:5, NLT
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” —Hebrews 10:23, NLT
Our God specializes in doing the impossible for his children and he wants us to marvel as we watch him work in our lives.
