Have you seen that WikiHow illustration where the dancer’s toes are touching the ground with the big toe painfully curled under?
It’s labeled as "How to Master Your Foot Arch for Ballet"—but it’s incredibly misleading and unhealthy advice.
The truth is, you cannot change the shape of your arch. Your foot’s bone structure is something you’re born with, and anyone who tells you they can "reshape" your arch without surgery is not telling you the truth.
This kind of advice not only misguides dancers but also puts them at risk for serious injuries like toe joint strain, tendonitis, and long-term foot problems.
Pushing your feet beyond their natural range won’t improve your technique—in fact, it will hurt it.
That’s exactly why I created the Dancer Resilience Program™, to teach dancers how to safely improve foot articulation, prevent injuries, and build stronger feet for better performance in class and en pointe.
