Here are some random videos demonstrating a Homemade CNC mill.
I designed and built this machine over the course of several years, while simultaneously using it to do many other non-related projects. It was assembled and disassembled over 30 times during its construction. All parts for the machine conversion were designed using Alibre 3D CAD, they were machined on this machine or my lathe and then mounted and tested on the machine, hence the 30 plus assembly/disassembly exercise.
In its current incarnation the Mill has 400mm X-axis travel limits, 160mm Y-axis travel limits and roughly 350 mm of Z-axis travel. All are greater than the factory travel limits due to the modifications I made to the design. It can do rapids at 2000mm/min (80 inches/min) which is limited by the 36 volt power supply only.
It uses the following components - this is not an all inclusive list, nor do I offer conversion plans or a parts list of any sort - you are welcome to copy, come up with a similar design or ask questions via [ Ссылка ].
• A base model Grizzly G0619 milling machine (Sieg Super X3) purchased in 2008
• LinuxCNC Control (Enhanced Machine Controller)
• MESA Electronics 5I20 Anything I/O FPGA Card, a MESA 7I47S RS-422 interface, a MESA 7I37 isolated I/O card
• Leadshine DCS810 Servo Motor Drives (20A peak current)
• Automation Technology NEMA 23 DC Servo Motors on X-axis and Y-axis (2.47 N.m peak torque)
• Automation Technology NEMA 34 DC Servo Motors on Z-axis (4.23 N.m peak torque)
• US digital differential E6 series encoders, 500 CPR, upgradable to 2500 CPR if necessary.
• ACME leadscrews supplied by Roton - these are 8 TPI, its impossible to find cheap metric ACME screws in the US
• Custom designed anti-backlash nuts, manufactured in-house - these will be replaced with ballscrews one day
• Custom built one-shot lubrication system for all bearings, slides and leadscrews
• Flood Coolant system with Manual and Auto modes
• Spindle Speed Control using LinuxCNC and MESA hardware
• E-Stop wiring for Spindle and Machine control
• XHC-LHB04 USB Jog Pendant and USB Numeric Keypad for jogging
• Tool Height compensation and Touch-off using LinuxCNC
• Independent Limit and Home switches on all 3 axes, in water repellent enclosures
• SKF Angular Contact Bearings on all 3 axis. No more cheap thrust bearings
• Various Timing Belts and Pulleys from SDP/SI - all 5mm pitch, 9mm wide
• Custom built wiring harness using RJ45 Keystone jacks and SJOOW Cable
• AnTek (toroidal transformers) unregulated DC Power Supply 36 Volts
• Custom designed enclosure made from welded Aluminum, Polycarbonate and HDPE panels, with coolant drain plumbing
*************************
Work in progress:
• Ballscrews on all 3 axis
• BT30 Spindle Conversion with air assisted tool changes
• Spindle upgrade to 2.6 KW AC Servo Motor
• PSU upgrade to achieve 5000 mm/min rapids or more
• 4th Axis
... and much more
