Fans of co-hosts Poland were consoling themselves after their team crashed out of Euro 2012 on Saturday.
Franciszek Smuda, who resigned as coach shortly after the game, could only watch as his team went down 1-0 to the Czech Republic in Wroclaw.
The Poles had plenty of chances in the match but were thwarted by Petr Cech, the Czech goalie rediscovering his end of season form for Chelsea.
It was somewhat against the run of play that the Czechs stunned the home crowd. Petr Jiracek cutting in from the right to fire past Przemyslaw Tyton.
The Poles desperately sought some goals in reply but could not find a way past a solid Czech defence. The loss sees the Poles finish bottom of Group A with two points, a position which led to coach Smuda's demise.
