STORYLINE:
Thousands of Spanish public service workers protested on Tuesday against their government's latest round of austerity cuts.
They marched from Plaza Cibeles in central Madrid to the Puerta del Sol under the banner "Public services belong to all of us. Say no to cuts!"
Public sector workers are angry about austerity measures that include extending the working hours of public workers from 35 to 37.5 hours a week and changes to sick leave rules.
"Privatisation - that's what's going to happen, and we are against that.," said one protester. "There are some services that cannot be private, such as public health, which could cause so much damage, and education."
"if we go on a general strike in the near future, we can still guarantee public services," said another. "Otherwise we won't be able to do so because the right wants to end it."
The protest was called by Spain's main public service unions - the UGT (General Workers Union), CC.OO (Workers Commission), the CSI (Independent Union Central) and CSIT Professional Union.
There were also protesters from smaller unions, left-wing parties, and members of the public.
More than 10-thousand people were estimated to have taken part in the march.
