Catalans in Barcelona reacted angrily to a Spanish judge's decision to order secessionist leaders be held in prison pending a potential trial over the region's independence push. The judges have also issued a European arrest warrant for the ousted Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont. Spain's prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, sacked Puigdemont and his government on 27 October, hours after the Catalan parliament made a unilateral declaration of independence.
