Yeppers, you guessed it, it's their high-quality ingredients! Everything from how the dough is freshly prepared every day down to how they season their pans. The styles they have are unique, delicious, sweet and savory.

Sicilian Pizza: The Sicilian Pizza is square, and yep, it's also where the name "Square Pizza" comes from! A Sicilian Pizza is made with slow-fermented pizza dough stretched and pushed out by hand, that creates an airy, fluffy, and delicious crust. They use an organic tomato Basil sauce, Wisconsin Mozzarella cheese & finished off with fresh basil, parmesan cheese, and imported oregano. Yummm!! Because of the time required to prep and craft this pizza, it is available only at the shop by the square in limited daily quantities or call the shop to order a whole pizza.

Detroit Style:
Another style of pizza that I consider a "must try" is the Detroit-Style. The difference between Detroit-Style pizza, and other deep dish or thick pizzas, is the crust, which is extra thick and very crispy on the bottom. The rectangular-shaped pizza is the result of being baked in a square pan, which is often not a pizza pan; This is a tradition that goes back to 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. This Sicilian pie gets stretched twice and baked in metal trays where a blend of Wisconsin cheeses are pilled up high, right to the edge, creating a border of golden brown crispy cheese that people fell in love with. The crust of a Detroit-Style pizza is occasionally twice-baked and it is usually baked in a well-oiled pan to a chewy medium-well-done state that gives the bottom and edges of the crust a fried or crunchy texture. Some parlors will apply melted butter with a soft brush prior to baking. The resulting pizza has a chewy texture.

The Thin Crust:
This is my personal favorite and always available to grab by the slice. The Thin Crust is a staple that originated in the early 1920’s in Merrimack Valley Massachusetts where locals affectionately call it ”beach pizza”. With that history, you can see why it is popular here in Pacific Beach! Its dough is rolled out by hand per tradition and baked in custom made blue steel trays yielding a thin, crispy and flaky crust, slightly sweet tomatoes sauce, Wisconsin mozzarella & imported oregano.

While a lot of pizza shops can offer you pizza, I think one of the greatest parts of Square Pizza is that the owners are very hands-on and are passionate about the art of pizza craft, who are focused on simple and square to tradition, and never cut corners to offer their customers a delightful experience. Their staff will even give you a comprehensive tour, as soon as you enter the store. So go by and check them out, my personal favorite is the Pepperoni Thin Crust with provolone cheese added on top....I HIGHLY recommend it!
