As we plan for a bright future ahead, we need to think and look back on our beginnings. We started off as an extremely poor nation with a lot of problems. Right now, our economy is growing and our country is developing. Our problems still exist, but they do because of wrong policy decisions as well as some ignorance on the part of our fellow countrymen.

So, this Republic Day, we have two messages for all of you:
1. Let us treat history as it is. The past. It cannot be changed. But wrongs can be identified as wrongs. Apologies can be made and bridges can be built. Having an open acceptance of wrongs is extremely crucial. Whitewashing history serves nobody.
2. Our country has suffered a lot of poverty because of British Rule. Let us relook at our villages and ensure we support our countrymen. Our country is a treasure of arts, crafts, textiles, cultures, architecture, and it can only sustain if we support it. Let us truly choose to buy something that helps someone in India, especially in Rural India. Let our choices be proudly local. Let us not ignore our poor just like the British did. Only when we come together can we change the problems in the country.
26th January is Republic Day, it honors the day when the Indian Constitution was adopted. On 26th January 1929, the Indian National Congress adopted the demand of Purna Swaraj or Complete Independence from the British.
