1. Don't Arrive Without Currency
In many areas, very few shops accept debit cards. Whether you want to take a cab across town or grab a quick drink, it pays to have some extra local currency on hand. Airport currency kiosks can be a bit of a ripoff, so try exchanging money at your bank before you leave.

2. Don't Go Over Budget
You should always assume that everything will cost more than it actually does. Unless you’ve already paid for something, it’s a good idea to assume that goods or services will cost about 20 percent more than you expect.

3. Secure Your Belongings
Losing your personal belongings and filing a police report are unpleasant experiences that can easily overshadow all of the holiday fun. There are pickpockets in every country, so you should always keep your wallet in your front pocket, and keep an eye on your belongings at all times.

If you think that your cell phone bill is high now, then just wait until you get a few international roaming charges. Seriously, you could end up paying hundreds of dollars. To avoid roaming charges, you can set your phone to airplane mode, buy an international data plan, or buy a local SIM card at your destination. Of course, make sure that your phone is SIM-unlocked first.
