The difference between Bi-weekly and semi-monthly is the frequency. Bi-weekly employees receive 26 paychecks a year and semi-monthly employees receive 24 paychecks a year.
If you process payroll bi-weekly, then there will be two months out of the year that will have an “extra” pay period. Meaning that two months out of the year there will be 3 paychecks processed instead of two.
There is no difference in payment amount, but semi-monthly gives you a cleaner and more accurate income statement when comparing payroll each month.
