Tools are expensive! Both the thickness planer and the drum sander flatten lumber. So, do you need both? I’m lucky enough to have these tools and use them every day. In this video, I outline when I use the planer vs the drum sander, along with the strengths and weaknesses of the tools. The thickness planer is a must-have tool in the workshop. It lets you plane lumber and make your boards the exact thickness you want. The drum sander is absolutely required in my workshop because of the types of projects I make. Like the thickness planer, the drum sander flattens lumber and helps you get your boards to the exact thickness you need. Both are great tools, but it pays to know which one you need to use and why.
