Here's a review and specifications overview of the Fostex X-15 Series II multitracker. I've yet to figure out what the difference is between the series II and the series I (answers in the comments if you know?) but so far as I can ascertain, the X-15 was the first battery powered multitrack cassette recorder to market in 1984, preceding Tascam's closest equivalent the porta one.

The unit was shipped with a carry strap and detachable battery compartment and its recommended retail price at launch was $500, which adjusted for inflation is about $1250 in 2021 money - mental!
