Chris Meyer explains what a makerspace is and does at Sector67, and gives us a tour of his facility for a better understanding. A makerspace is an area that the community can come together to make ideas come to life by making the parts for ideas through lots of machines.
Everything can be made from rockets to custom car pieces. The community consists of around 100 members who all love creating and building things that come to mind! This is made possible by all of the tools throughout the shop that members can use. The tools range from CNC machines, table saws, and hammers, to plasma cutters and bandsaws.
Numbers of projects have been created and completed throughout the shop, including scientific parts, and custom children’s race cars. There are multiple different areas throughout the shop for multiple different needs.
Maker spaces have started to pop up all over the country, but Chris Meyer and Sector 67 were early adopters to the movement, five years ago. Now, they’ve got a shop full of equipment, including a PCNC 1100.Here, Meyer provides a tour of the Sector 67 facilities explaining what a makerspace is used for.
