In medicine we use antibiotics to treat bacterial infections, such as very simple infections such as eye infection, throat infection, something more serious such as pneumonia or a systemic infection. Antibiotics are very important for us to fight these infections, but what happens is that as we administer them to fight bacteria, they learn and evolve, and those medications expire. The problem is that antibiotics now attack all bacteria, good and bad, and when used on a large scale the possibility of bacteria developing resistance mechanisms increases. Our idea is that if we could create drugs that, while attacking bad bacteria, prevent the evolution and development of resistance of bacteria, this would eliminate the problem of antibiotic resistance forever.
