I found dancing in medical school, in the height of one of the most stressful periods in my life. I loved the energy of the music and when I danced the whole world fell away. There was only this person in front of me and this beautiful conversation through movement and rhythm. Becoming a surgeon was a privilege and an honor and was all consuming. Dancing brought a lighter side of life and an outlet to expressing those emotions that could never be seen in the professional realm. During the height of the pandemic, one of the most stressful times in life for all of us, dancing was taken away. For some of us life has moved on from dancing, but for me the time away from dancing gave me a new found gratitude for the ability to dance and appreciation for those who dance with me. Mickey and I dreamed up this video project when we did a performance at Lindy Focus and finished it here in Seattle with the ever talented Daniel Turrietta filming and giving creative direction. This video is a love letter to those who dance, those who used to dance, and those who dream of dancing. #slowbalboa #balboadance #swingdance #lindyhop #pandemic #dance #dancelove #grateful #seattlewashington
