Complex periodic waveforms are waveforms made up on multiple frequencies (complex) that have a pattern of fluctuations that repeats (periodic). There are literally an infinite number of possible complex periodic waveforms, but three complex periodic waveforms we see in a lot of synthesizers are triangle waves, sawtooth waves and pulse waves.
Understanding the harmonic make-up of these waveforms helps us to use them as effective tools in our sound design.
