In today's discussion, we're going to dig into the eight most common advertising pitfalls I've observed digital marketers often falling into. I witness these oversights almost daily, and I strongly advise you to steer clear of these if you aspire to earn substantial profits from your advertisements and establish a successful business swiftly and effectively. Let's dive straight into these mistakes:
Mistake 1: Not running ads. Yes, you heard it right. Not running ads is a blunder.
There are two routes to online traffic and business growth: organic and paid. Organic growth is a long haul requiring a lot of time and effort. So if you're keen on expanding your business at a fast pace, you'd likely need to invest some capital. Paid ads offer a shortcut, enabling rapid business growth, and they provide a platform for various tests that wouldn't be possible otherwise. My suggestion: a blend of both is key. Why? Time is a precious commodity, and with a finite amount of money to start with, you must turn profitable before your funds dry up. Running ads expedites lead generation, traffic, and sales for your business, pushing you to take action and avoid procrastination or perfectionism that often hinders many businesses.
Mistake 2: Attempting to reach more than one potential customer demographic with a single ad. It's an uphill battle trying to create an ad that caters to everyone. For instance, if your product or service caters to struggling couples looking to improve their relationship, you need to run two separate ads, one aimed at men, and the other at women. Their perspectives on relationships and intimacy are often distinct, and your ads need to mirror that.
Mistake 3: Pointing out the problem directly in your ad, especially on Facebook. Instead, focus on the transformation your potential customer would experience. Rather than highlighting the features or problems, showcase the transformation to get your ad accepted and to run effectively on platforms like Facebook.
Mistake 4: Setting daily ad budgets too low. To properly test your ads, you must be willing to invest a significant amount. A decent starting point would be a minimum of $20 per day for at least a week, giving you a minimum budget of $140.
Mistake 5: Cutting your ads off prematurely. The algorithm requires adequate spending and time to determine the right audience for your ad. So, patience is key. Don't halt your ad spend prematurely, and certainly, don't make changes in the first week.
Mistake 6: Running ads for branding rather than to build your list or make sales. As a small business, direct response ads that invite customers to opt-in, sign up, or buy are more effective than branding campaigns.
Mistake 7: Incorrect setup of conversion pixels. Even though this may sound technical, setting up conversion pixels correctly is crucial. These pixels inform the algorithm about the people who have interacted with your ad, helping it find more people similar to your leads.
Finally, Mistake 8: Assuming that running ads is something you can't do yourself. The truth is, you can't afford not to do it yourself initially. Later, when your business starts growing, you can hand it over to a professional who will refine your ad strategies.
In a nutshell, those are the eight common missteps I've noticed digital marketers often making. I advise you not to make the same mistakes. Learning how to run ads effectively is a crucial first step towards the rapid growth and sustainability of your business.
