On the 20th July 1982 the IRA detonated two improvised explosive devices, the first was a car bomb that exploded on South Carriage Drive in Hyde Park as soldiers of the Household Cavalry were passing. Four soldiers of the Blues and Royals were to lose their lives as well as 7 of the horses.
The second attack happened at 12:55pm when a bomb exploded under the band stand in Regents Park while there was a concert being performed by the Band of The 1st Battalion Royal Green Jackets, during their performance of the medley Oliver. Seven of the bandsmen were to lose their lives.
This simple ceremony was to commemorate those injured and lost in the Regents Park Bombing.
The Waterloo Band of the Rifles went on to perform a concert after the service. During the concert the band played the medley from Oliver that was being played at the time of the attack. At the point of the explosion the band stopped and the names of those killed were read out along with the sounding of The Last Post.
