We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton. This is one of the grand railway hotels of Canada, and it's built in a chateau style. Come along for a tour and a review of our stay!

This was our first time staying at a Fairmont property. We had previously visited some of the other Fairmont chateaus across Canada either for hotel tours or afternoon tea, so we were pretty excited about actually spending the night.
Also, I booked this as a little babymoon to break up our Alberta trip, and we chose Edmonton because this is where Sam went to university and he hadn’t been back in a very long time.
But back to the hotel. The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald is a heritage property that dates back to 1915, and it’s one of the many grand railway hotels you can find across Canada. The rise of these chateau hotels was closely tied to Canada’s then-expanding rail network and the hotels were built to serve rail passengers travelling across the country in style.
The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald is named after Canada’s first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, and it is nicknamed The Mac.
