Sicilian puppets and the Opera dei pupi marionette puppet theater are an important Sicilian tradition.
The performances were mostly based on the epic French poem The Song of Roland based on Christian fight against the Saracens in Spain. Also Orlando Furioso, an Italian epic poem with a similar theme is widely used for themes for shows in Sicily . Characters are depicted on Sicilian carts, Dolce & Gabbana items and more
