The earliest records date back to 970 AD, when the Slavs, after having definitively removed the Saracens on the orders of Otto I, founded Pesclizio on the ruins of a farmhouse destroyed by the Saracens.
The first document about the Slav presence in the town of Peschici is dated 1023,. In this document there are not only references on the town of Peschici, but also on the presence of the Slav community in the area and on the excellent relations that this community managed to have with the local population. Another document confirming the presence of the Slavs in Peschici is a donation in 1053, drawn up by Slavs defined as residing in the Pesclizio castle.
The very name of Peschici is probably of Slavic origin, in fact the Slavic root "pès" (or "pèsc") refers to sand, the Slavic toponyms pjèskusa and Russian pèski indicate sandy soil.
In 1177 it was under the fief of Monte Sant'Angelo, donated by William II known as the Good to his wife Giovanna of England. Under the rule of the Swabians, Peschici spent dramatic moments in the dispute between the empire and the papacy.
A chronicler of the time tells us that in September 1239, 25 Venetian galleys sent by Pope Gregory IX against the excommunicated Frederick II, "take and prostrate Bestice (Peschici) and Bestie (Vieste)".
Frederick II, however, will have the fortifications of the two centers rebuilt.
Under the Angevin dynasty, Peschici is among the few villages loyal to King Charles, at the time of the arrival of Corradino di Svevia (1267). In 1274 he took part with Bari, Monopoli, Trani, Vieste and Ortona in the Apulian fleet in the siege of Omiš, a city on the Dalmatian coast. In 1401 the fiefdom passed to King Ladislao of Durazzo.

During the Aragonese dominion, the Gargano supported (1458) the supporting barons of Giovanni d'Angiò against the new king Ferrante, who in 1462 occupied the Gargano entrusting it to Giorgio Castriota Scanderbeg, his ally.
After the Franco-Spanish wars for the possession of the kingdom of Naples in the 16th century, but above all after the umpteenth raids of the Turks, it was decided to build ten towers along the coasts of the Capitanata. Five years later the number of towers rises to 21.
In the 1700s, a plaque placed on the Baronial Enclosure in the historic center certifies that Peschici belonged to the Prince of Ischitella Emanuele Pinto.
Later on it became part of Italy.
