Ireland could need to build more than 50,000 new homes every year for the next 25 years in order to properly meet growing demand.
In its quarterly bulletin, the Central Bank said improvements around planning, infrastructure and productivity in the construction sector are needed, in order to ramp up supply. However it has also warned that simply throwing money at the problem - such as the windfall from the Apple tax ruling - could make the delivery of housing more expensive.
