Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns completely upended comics when it debuted in 1986. Since then, it’s become one of the most influential comics of all time. DKR heavily influenced Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman.
How did a four-issue limited series make such an enduring impact? We talked to Miller and inker Klaus Janson about it, as well as some of the many comics superstars who were inspired by DKR.
