Aggravated assault is classified as a felony and can result in a prison sentence of one to 20 years.
An assault is when an individual attempts to commit a violent injury to another person or makes them fear an injury.
If the defendant intended to murder, rape, or rob the victim, that moves the assault up to aggravated assault.
Similarly, if they used a deadly weapon or an object that could cause serious bodily injury or strangulation or discharged a firearm from a vehicle at another person, that is also aggravated assault.
