Multi-drug resistant human pathogens have been identified as the next great challenge to modern medicine. At UEA, we are investigating the nests of tropical leafcutter ants as a possible source of new antibiotics to treat human diseases.
In this 2015 UEA London Lecture, Prof Matt Hutchings (School of Biological Sciences) explored the complex relationship between the leafcutter ants, their fungal food source, and the symbiotic bacteria that protect them.
