Even as Kerala is fighting tooth and nail to bring the Covid pandemic under control, the State government is contemplating on reopening schools, according to sources. The Cabinet will consider the matter after holding discussions with health experts.
The government’s wish is to reopen the school after November 15.
By the way, the education department has also given a letter to the government stating that schools could be reopened from November 15th onwards.
Initially, classes will start only for 10th and 12th standards. Even in that case, students in each class will be divided into separate batches and classes will be conducted for each on alternate days.
Schools will function only under some restrictions. Seating arrangements will be made in the class abiding by social distancing norms. Wearing masks and cleaning hands with sanitizers will be made mandatory.
Meanwhile, the government has informed that a final decision on reopening of schools will be taken only in consultation with experts in the health department.
As a precursor to reopening schools, the State government has collected the Covid details from all districts. These data will be analysed before taking a decision on the areas where schools could be reopened.
According to reports the next Cabinet meeting will discuss the reopening of schools.
However, school will not start functioning in areas where a high number of Covid cases has been reported.
Meanwhile, though the Centre had informed that states could take their own decision regarding the reopening of schools, schools were reopened only in UP and Puducherry.
In Tamil Nadu, it has been decided to reopen the school on November 16. And it is after this that Kerala started of thinking about school reopening.
