"And also being responsible, being in a responsible position towards atrocities which are right now committed around us, with the emergence of extremism in the region. So, human rights and the council is in a very important historical junction right now, to safeguard, to protect the human rights all over the world and especially in our region."

"We should respect the sovereignty and integrity of the Syrian Government and let the Syrian state and let the people of Syria decide. They deserve a decent Government, they have the honest God right to choose their own leader in the future. No country in the world should say that this guy should be in power, or this guy should not be in power."

STORYLINE
The head of Iran's Human Rights Council, Mohammad Javad Larijani said on Tuesday that the world should respect the "sovereignty and integrity of the Syrian Government ".
Speaking in Geneva on the sidelines of a United Nations Human Rights meeting, Larijani said the Syrian people had the right to choose their own leader without external intervention.
