The saga of the Tuatha Dé Danann is told in the Annals of the Four Masters, compiled by Franciscan monks. The Tuatha Dé Danann, a fabled race of god-like beings with superhuman powers, came across the oceans in the mists, or perhaps in a cloud, carrying with them four magical treasures. Each treasure is from a different city and was delivered by the poet of that city. The title "poet", can be applied broadly, as they were taught in many disciplines, including magic and druidry. These treasures, or hallows, are a vital aspect of Celtic mythology.
The first treasure, from the city of Fálias, was the Lia Faíl, or Stone of Destiny, which would be used to consecrate all Irish rulers. As a proof of his kingship, as the rightful king stood on the stone, it let out a great roar. The second treasure, was The Claímh Solas, or the Sword of Light. It was forged by Uiscias in the searing heat of the day-foundries of Fionnias. It was constantly carried by King Nuada of the Silver Arm, and when he drew it, no one could escape it’s lethal blow. Not only that, but an enemy was drawn to it, so running away wasn’t an option. The third treasure, from the city of Goirias, was Lugh of the Long Arm’s Spear, the Gae Assail. Its tip was made of dark bronze, elegantly tapered, and connected to a rowan shaft with 30 gold rivets. No one could withstand the spear, making the wielder invincible. Lastly, from the Rich Murias, The Dagda's Cauldron, or the Coire Ansic, was the final treasure. This large domestic container would never run out of food, and would satisfy everyone who sat at it. All of these treasures were ways to win a war and run a kingdom. An army requires food to survive, weapons to defeat the adversary, and a ruler, in whom, you have complete faith.
