With the increasing use of laptops for music making, expanding the storage of your system is no longer as easy as simply opening up the case and installing a second drive, (although easy was perhaps never the right word…). The availability of external hard drives offering ever increasing capacity at ever lower prices makes them attractive for storage. However, the plug-and-play nature of external drives means that Windows isn’t always consistent in how it allocates drive letters, which interrupts your workflow as you try to work out what letter you need to look for today. Even worse is when your sample library is stored on an external drive. In this video, I look at how to make sure Windows consistently allocates the same letter every time you connect the drive.
